Many birds pause like that in the hand before release. I think part of it is shock, plus, they are not in a natural position. Birds never lie on their bellies, or on their backs, outside of a banding station. If you place a bird in those positions sometimes they are unsure of what to do and just lay there for a while. In any case, this is one amazing bird. Thanks for sharing this story!

Hi, What amazing creatures. I was just wondering how you got the bird to be so tame. I see you are not holding her down. Why doesn't she fly away from your hand?
