Thorny Devil, Moloch horridus

Newhaven Sanctuary, Northern territory

These remarkable little Agamids feed entirely on ants. Whilst the lizards themselves are slow-moving, it is virtually impossible to see
their rapid tongue flicks. This individual is missing the enlarged spines at the back of the neck which is interesting, as Thorny Devils
will often duck their heads down when threatened and present the two-spined hump on their neck. It looks as if in this lizard the
defence technique may have saved it.
