Midland Clubtail (Gomphus fraternus)

Two days ago I posted a photo of a Horned Clubtail eyeing out a deer fly that was orbiting my head. This morning I had a repeat performance with a Midland Clubtail. While I was taking an up-close look at this Midland Clubtail a deer fly spotted me and started orbiting my head. The dragonfly immediately turned its head towards me and then leapt from its perch to snatch the deer fly. Like my experience on Sunday, just by chance I happened to be in the process of taking a photo when this happened.

This morning I tried a new route that took me through places I had never been before. This Midland Clubtail was one of the dragonflies I saw. As I "cruised" along I also saw a Stream Cruiser and a massive Swift River Cruiser. I also encountered my first Great Spangled Firtillaries of the year.

Beautiful shot of this clubtail, one of the prettiest of this group I think.
