The Game of the Nose

The Game of the Nose.

In a remote monastery one day a mysterious traveller brings as present to the Abbot
a strange little plant, telling him it’s a vegetable which grew in a new land.

The Abbot think it’s surely a devilish trick and forbids the monks to plant it,
but the gardener of the Monastery transgress the order
and he starts cultivating the odd vegetables in an hidden corner of the kitchen garden.

But when the fruits of the plant are ripe he doesn’t know what to do with them
and he’s not sure they are edible.

The monks, bored to death by the monastic life since at that time television and computer had not been invented yet,
find out that the mysterious new vegetables are very soft and juicy
and very funny to throw to each other,
so they set the rules of a new game,
which they call “The Game of the Nose”
since its purpose is throwing the red vegetables to each other’s nose,
when the Abbott is not in the refectory.

One day they are so involved in the game of the nose
that they don’t realize the Abbot is entering the refectory
and they become aware of that only when they hear a sudden “splash”
and notice the nose of the Abbot completely covered by reddish sauce.

They freeze in terror, but the Abbot licks the juice and says
“With a little of olive oil it must be delicious...”.

Seems a little like the "Stanley and the Beanstalk" fairy tale to be. Let me know where I can get a copy.
