Peat Stacked to Dry

Peat is an accumulation of partially decayed vegetation matter that is harvested
from local bogs and dried to provide fuel for cooking and heating. A lecture and
tasting of single malt Scotch mentioned that peat gives some Scotch whiskeys
their distinctive smokey flavor (and you thought all our lectures were on
history and animals).
