At the rest stop on US 287 just north of Virginia Dale, CO there were dozens of Violet-green Swallows flying around. They like building nests in the large circular openings of the various roof structures at the rest stop. This photo shows the coloration of the swallow's back. The dusky face of the juvenile is fading and will be replaced with a white pattern.
