Five helicopters under Bridge.jpg

Sydney Harbour, Australia

Dear viewer,
The following will ilustrate the lengths to which we go to present you with the fullest possible facts on technical subjects: Quote dear rob,
one of the great problems of pretending to be a "know all" is that the truth will, sooner or later (and in this case sooner), come out !!! i was about to plead the excuse that my supposed expertise only extended to fixed-wing aircraft and not to whirly-birds but that seemed a bit of a cop-out so had to think up another way to save face. if you study the pic of "the five" they appear to be in navy colours and the profile has a distinct hump where the driver sits. ah-ha says i and consulting the wonderful web i find that the only chopper to fit the bill is the "westland wessex" so that's where i puts my money. regards msm.
Greetings MSM (unpaid)
Brave is the fellow who confesses ignorance of a pew where once he claimed the church itself. Brave indeed and pending an overnight consideration, your words may well be quoted in full for some useful truthes may there-in exist.

Hi thaire Robaire.
In reply to when was it I direct your attention to the building under construction just to the right of the S.E. pylon. I think this is the IBM Building (since demolished) which was built in the early to middle fifties. The precast concrete sun-hoods were produced by EPM, which was at that time part of ARC Engineering, and drawn and detailed by yours truly. I think at the time I was driving a VW which puts it around '63 or '64. You might be able to remember what you were doing in those years and narrow it down more.

Mea Culpa !!!
Second line, twelfth word, read SIXTIES not fifties.

Two more things following on from MSM's excellent forensic work.As you may or may not know after a lot of toing and froing the Royal Australian Navy finally and officially came into being on Sat. 4th Oct. 1913. (That's why "Navy Week" is always held in early October.)
if you look closely at the bottom section of the picture there is quite a crowd of people gathered along the shoreline and on the grass slope around the pylon. So I'm suspecting it is Navy Week in Oct. 1963 celebrating 50 years of the Royal Australian Navy.
