Great Egret Babies

Southeast Louisiana

It made me physically sick this morning when I saw the eggs of the brown pelican covered in oil and the entire small island of nesting pelicans being saturated by the oil of the blown out well owned by BP (formerly called British Petroleum). This could not have happened at a worse time. The pelicans have nests on the ground either with eggs or with young pelicans. To feed the babies they must dive into the waters of the Gulf to catch fish. The waters are covered with oil. The pelicans will suffer and die. And, the ruptured well is still gushing millions of gallons a day.
See PBaser Scott Schexnaydre's photo of one of our barrier islands that is now getting hit by the oil at http://www.pbase.com/image/124783897.

Smackin' good color and detail. The wildlife have faced their fair (really unfair) share of challenges there this year.

Such a disaster, 100 times worst than Katrina, and this one was man-made

The oil is disgusting, and the worst disaster in our lifetime....it will have huge repercussions.

Such a cute little group. A spot of joy in the midst of all the misery.

Scrawny looking but cute. Let's see "BP" stands for "Big Problem" right? Can La. try them in a court of law for the harm to wildlife?

This is simply one great photograph. So well done! Someone has to stop this oil leak. Let's pray this next attempt works.
