This is actually a single large tree. Since they grow by sending down branches that become roots, everything you see here originated from a single trunk (probably hundreds of years ago).

I love Banyan trees, the first one I ever saw was in Key West, Florida, brought a seed home to New Jersey, it did not grow,,,this tree belongs in the "Lord of the Rings" books,,very unusual, this photo shows more than one,, I have only seen them as a single or sometimes two, but never a grove of Banyan trees
