This photo shows two birds. An American version Whimbrel and a Long-billed Curlew. If you can not see both birds select a smaller viewing size or increase the size of your browser window. These birds were seen at the Beebee Draw area south of Lower Latham Reservoir east of WCR45 on north side of WCR40. The picture is fuzzy due to the distance to the birds from the road. However one can see the differences between the two species. Note the striped crown of the Whimbrel on the left vs the plain crown of the Long-billed Curlew. Also note the smaller size of the Whimbrel and the longer bill of the Curlew. This wide format photo is purposely supplied to show both birds together in same light and location for comparison.
