7th - Messages

Cheltenham, Glos.

Friday means replenishing the pantry for the hungry hordes over the weekend - a fond memory I have as a child is being asked to 'go and get the messages', a wonderfully vague phrase which meant popping to the shops for a few bits and pieces. If I was fortunate, I might have a penny or two left over for some skoosh and jube-jubes, or maybe even a lucky potato.

From bitter experience, I learnt the hard way that the Scots tongue, while poetic, sing-song and full of gallus and braw phraseology is a peculiar and incomprehensible beast to those who don't speak her and definitely not one for using down here in leafy Gloucestershire, so 'going shopping' it is from now on :o)

Mandy and I had quite a few "language incidents" in the three years that we lived in Aberdeen! John

I remember doing the " messages " for my Nan. The money was wrapped in the paper list she wrote for the shopkeeper.

I need to do that....can you spare a bag?

I have at last trained myself out of plastic bags. It's not so bad once you get a new system going ..... looks like a bit of a load for "messages". Interesting shot.

Mmmmm, I see Beer. Shame on you though for using plastic bags. They will be illegal here soon.

Not a bad job when you're in the mood.

Funny, I go for 'messages' too - but usually when I'm not doing a full grocery shop.

Wot, no "bag-for-life"? Shame on you :o) Looks like there's some ale in there somewhere - good stuff!

The bag on the right looks particularly promising :)

Getting the messages is a much better expression than getting the shopping, I think we should all adopt it.
