Someone asked if Jake was a Husky mix.
He was indeed and he was from Alaska.
He was a wonderful, sweet dog.
He lost his front leg in an accident as a young dog.
He did great for years.
He and his owner moved down to New York several years ago and he continued doing well.
I came to know him when he came to the animal hospital where I work.
In the winter of 2008 he ruptured his cruciate ligament.
That's the ligament in your leg that holds your knee in place.
Unfortunately, the knee that went was on the same side of the body as the front leg that was missing.
There was a question as to whether he should have the surgery to correct the problem.
How was he going to recover?
He did not have a front left leg and now we were going to do a major surgical repair on the left rear leg.
Well, Jake was a trooper.
We did the surgery, and he did recover, thanks to the loving care of his wonderful owners.
He lived happily for another two years.
He died of cancer recently.
This photo is how I wish to remember him.
A happy smiling boy!
