A kayaker is dwarfed by the face of the Mendenhall Glacier

Mendenhall Glacier

This probably isn't a very good idea. The glacier has been very active recently and approaching the face of any glacier is inherently risky.

I was kayaking but was out well away from the face when I saw two kayaks (only one in this image). It does give you a good feeling for the size of the face of the glacier.

The lake ice on Mendenhall Lake just went out yesterday, April 17 about three weeks early this year compared with the past three years.

The face of the glacier is about 70 feet at the highest point. Plenty enough to dwarf a kayaker.
