the dual 'catch cans''

yes.....those two 'catch cans' are, or were, vacuum tanks used in 200 series HVAC systems: the 'combined heating/cooling units'.

I decided to use TWO catch cans:

...to let me monitor how well the crankcase vent side and how well the cam cover venting were doing as far as vapor separation, and to let me see what each one was precipitating out of the vent flow.

...using two cans doubles the volume of the dead air space that the catch can uses to let the vapors fall out of the blowby gases.

...and using two cans doubled the flow path size, thereby cutting the flow velocity in half. Slower vent flow allows more vapor to 'fall out' of the blowby gases.

Definitely a win-win.

Those vacuum tanks have very nice mounting brackets that I modified for use to hold the catch cans in place. They work great: the catch cans pop into place, are held securely, and allow for easy removal.

I routed the hoses FROM the crankcase and cam cover to the third globe of each can. The hoses going TO the turbo air inlet hose, I tapped into the fourth globes...up near the top.

...the crankcase and the cam cover can send the blowby gases to their catch can, at their leisure, with the vented vaporous gases aiming down into the catch can.

...the turbo air inlet hose, working with the turbocharger and the engine, can then provide the negative pressure to the top of each can to draw off the much drier blowby gases into the engine.

That accomplishes the desired end: vent the crankcase blowby gases in such a way so as to separate out as much of the oil vapors as possible, and to put the crankcase, and cylinder head under negative pressure [i.e., pressure less than atmospheric] during all engine operating conditions. And do all that at a leisurely and slow velocity.

It works.

The catch can mounted near the driver's side headlamp is the catch can for the crankcase vent hose. The catch can near the right side head lamp is the catch can for the cam cover vent.
