Found along a streambed, this large exuvia is that of a darner. Walker's is the only candidate since it is a stream species: males seek
females along shady mountain streams, and this is where females oviposit, the only darner in our area to live and breed in this environment.
Note that the exoskeleton is covered with sand and bits from the bottom of the streambed for camouflage in the manner of
stoneflies, caddisflies and other streamdwelling larvae. The visitor is a fruit fly of family Lauxaniidae. The plant is a stinging nettle.
