14th April 2010 - up yer Arse

I’ve said before that you can’t help who you support and so the pleasure of victory is all the more sweet when it comes. It's been another "big night in" for us tonight.

It's a bit like living next door to someone much richer, more successful and more beautiful and being forced to watch their arrogant posturing every day.....then throw in the fact that you get jeered at by ten-year-olds in the street for living next door to them and anyway - I think you get my drift....

Tonight we’ve sat in front of the radio – not quite a transistor like my Dad would have listened to (in fact he tells a story of sitting in front of his transistor radio weeping as the news of the Munich Air Disaster was reported) but a digital radio station captured through our Sky box.

We had to cancel our subscription to Sky Sports some time ago (can’t afford it now I’m a student) so these days we get our footie fix in the lowest brow way – the commentary on the radio. This is more frustrating than watching on the telly because we still get the totally Gooner-biased commentary but when we’ve got a telly picture we can make a judgement for ourselves about how well we’re doing.

Anyway, all of that preamble was to say that we have sat on the edge of the sofa listening to Spurs beat the ARSEnal tonight and a sweet, sweet victory it was by all accounts. The game was crucial in the title race and crucial for us Spurs fans too – we are fighting for a Champions League place tooth and nail so it was vital for us to win – in fact both managers were quoted before the game as saying it was a “must win” game.

When the Judas nearly scored in the opening moments we were in full-on white knuckle mode but when our youngster Danny Rose hit a complete belter from 30 yards out we were jumping around, flag-waving and generally whooping it up. Of course scoring the opening goal after just 10 minutes meant we then had 80 minutes of fretting about whether or not we could keep the momentum going and actually beat the team who are our most bitter rivals and who we’ve not beaten in the league since 1999.

By the end of the game, I think we’d both been on a real rollercoaster but the joy of knowing that we’d done it was great! Our discussions centred around what would be being said/sung in the Bell and Hare as well as how Sarah would have had a birds eye view of Danny Rose’s goal, shot, as it was, from just in front of her seat…..oh how we wished we could have been there to share the experience. I doubt if Danny Rose will ever score a goal that brings him greater love and loyalty from fans....wherever his youg career takes him.

Take your pleasure where you can I say – and I know that if I’d had a choice of a victory on Sunday or this victory tonight, this is by far the sweeter……..mind you, victory on both occasions would have been fabulous.

Now all we have to do is beat Chelsea and Man United and we’re all going on a European Tour……

Ahhh- Linda- yes I did have a great view of Danny's goal! That will be the highlight of his career! It was madness- I cannot remember such scenes at WHL in a long, long time. After the game fans stayed in the stadium cheering for ages. The atmosphere in the B&H was also amazing- as you would expect..... The main songs were along the lines of "we beat the sc*m 2-1" and something about "we ****** your season up". (Obviously I didn't join in with any swearing) We missed you though- only a few of us there to enjoy the sweet victory xxx
