Do jawharps belong to the "idiophones" or to the "membranophones"?
Of course, instruments like this create the sound from itself so it should be of the first group, but the sound comes from a cut out membrane swinging, so it also belongs to the second.
On the picture we find a jaw harp with attached string from Bali.

Obwohl Maultrommeln (wie die im Bild gezeigte aus Bali, die mit einem Faden angerissen wird) ihren Klang aus sich selbst erzeugen, gehören sie eigentlich zur Gruppe der Idiophone. Da hier jedoch eine Membran herausgeschnitten wird, die in Schwingung versetzt wird, kann man sie benso den Membranophonen zuordnen.
