Four sections of Washington State's old floating Hood Canal Bridge arrive in Cowichan Bay. Purchasers had plans to dismantle them down to the float portion and use at least some of them to create marina floats possibly in Sidney BC. This type of activity posed a threat to Cowichan Bay's sensitive estuary ecosystem and was not allowed to proceed. March 31,2010 the process of moving the sections to a new, undisclosed location began.
