Monte thruhiked the PCT in 1977, and was the first to sign the Mt Whitney register on his way north. Monte's decked out in the best vintage 1970s gear: MSR Thunderbird ice axe w/snow basket, Vasque Hiker2 boots, Grivel crampons, wool pants, wool hat, knee high gators, mirrored sunglasses, REI down coat,,, all on 650 miles of trail tuned 19yr old body at 14,496 ft (MtW elev in 1977).
