Congratulations to Jim Davis of the Olympic Chapter for receiving the Volunteer Service “Lopper Award”. As a member for at least 15 years Jim has served as the Chapter President (2002), Director (2003-2006), and voting Trail Boss. Jim has chaired the Chapter budget committee for the last six years. He has been a member of the West Sound Chapter since its inception and was instrumental in keeping Back Country Horsemen in Kitsap County united in the mission. Jim attends DNR focus meetings and makes sure our Chapter has our ride dates and horse camp reservations.
At the State level he attends Rendezvous, Leadership and Legislative Day events and has been an avid BCHW calendar supporter helping in sales, photo entries, and editing. For volunteer hours Jim has accumulated 1,156 hours since Olympic Chapter’s records began in 2000. Our Chapter is certain he does not include many of his volunteer hours, such as meetings, camp host duties, and trail maintenance while riding. The reported hours are his sweat equity hours. Olympic Chapter hosts the Green Mountain Camp and one can easily earn up 50 hours in one weekend. Our records indicate that he usually does one weekend each month. At work parties one would think they are working alongside a 20 year old. In both leadership and general trail work he is a pleasure to work with, and some say he is the backbone of the Chapter. He takes pride in whatever job he undertakes. Jim’s actions and dedication to BCHW reflects credit upon himself, the Chapter, and of course BCHW.
