The Writers

The Writers
This book was published thirty years ago and has had pride of place on my shelves for a long time.
It was a gift from six of my colleagues when my second child was born,
and I have treasured it ever since.
It contains new writing by many of Ireland's best writers,
and it is doubly valuable to me because of the way it is arranged.
In every case a photograph of the writer faces the first page of his or her work.
The photographs were taken by Mike Bunn especially for this book
and they are works of art in themselves.

I love the anticipation of your next entry in this gallery. Seeing your reading life unfold is like a self portrait in a way. Beautiful and interesting comments on the books also.

impressive portrayal of this intriguing volume...surely a good read considering the huge number of brilliant Irish writers...some of those names are familiar...I have a few anthologies myself from the Phoenix series, and also single author collections from James Joyce, Liam O'Flaherty, Sean O'Faolain, Elizabeth Bowen, Frank O'Connor, Neil Jordan, and Anne Enright...books like these are to be savoured, and treasured..

This looks like a handsome volume. I love anthologies -they give you the chance to sample the work of different
writers, discover new talents and favourites. I'd love to know how many of the 44 are still writing and have made their
mark on Irish literature.
