10 Cork & Screw top

Melbourne, Australia

A bottle with a cork is nowadays hard to find in Australia.
The screw top has won this battle cork v screw top

I discovered this on the internet:
Up to three quarters of the unique cork oak forests of the Mediterranean could be lost
within 5 years because of the increasing popularity of the screw-top wine bottle.

Geweldig idee. Veel wijnliefhebbers prefereren een echte kurk. Maar echte kenners zeggen dat een schroefdop net zo goed is.

Real cork for me! Love that sound it makes as it leaves the bottle :o)) Good thinking and a good shot Mieke

Cork always 'feels' better and of course it picks up the aroma of the wine as well. Nice image.

Great comparison! Yes a good wine will still have a real cork, other than that consumer wines in mass produktion will have the screw top! There´re plastic corks, but I had them, because you don´t get them back in again, because the expand! Nothing is better as a real cork! The cork you show is a pressed , not naturally grown, just to let you know! Prost!

We hebben hier in Nederland al veel synthetische kurken, maar ook schroefdoppen.

Great shot, wonderful comparison, all the best wines have screw tops.

Wonderful idea for a comparison! I was under the impression that the cork meant a finer wine, too, like Cindi said.

At least with the screw top you're not going to worry about a breaking cork, or the wine going off, and you can replace the lid and not have to go searching for a stopper. Great idea and so well presented Mieke!

I like my corks....and Australian wine is the best! I had several kinds while there and was very impressed. The screw off top reminds me of cheap wine.

nice juxta shot Mieke..

Great juxta shot Mieke!
As much as I love real cork, I have to say that they do leak sometimes causing the wine to oxidate and be ruined. I love the new synthetic corks, and hey ~ screw tops are becoming popular!
