Egrets Building a Nest

The New Orleans newspaper, The Times Picayune, used this photo in an article on Sunday regarding the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers levee project and chasing the birds away from the rookery to protect the birds. The egrets won't be in the rookery for this nesting season.

Beautiful photograph, Coleen. You would think the Fish and Wildlife Service could grant the Corps. a waiver for this needed project.

A beautiful image and a very interesting article. One wonders why they couldn't have started this project six months ago.

Great capture, Coleen..
Glad the paper published the pictures and article.. I lost my faith in the Army Corp of Engineers along time ago, they have caused much harm to our state. We are losing land because the levee system doesn't direct and distribute the sedement where its needed. The bad design,of the flood walls, that basially wiped out New Orleans, and now this!!
There timing on stating this project during mating season, is not right...

A very beautiful and moving image, Coleen. Hopefully they can relocate successfully. What a shame to disturb the rookery.

I will definately read the article. Wonderful moment captured. They should have places to nest without people making the decision that they should be moved. They aren't hurting anyone.

How sad, two of our taxpayer-funded agencies cannot communicate so as to do this work during the season that will not disturb these beautiful birds. Hope the USFWS really hooks the Corps on this one.

Very nice image and excellent story to go with.

Beautiful capture. I read the article. The comments were somewhat disturbing. Don't understand who could look at a photo like this and not sympathize with the plight of the birds.

Congrats Coleen, read the article and people's comments to the article. Some don't have a clue about what's going on. Everybody has an opinion. Why $350M dollars to an out of state contractor? Who knows? CC

Excellent composition and detail to capture dance and fragility invoked by sad story.

What a beautiful dance. A sad story but not shocking considering the perps...
