Thank you to Michael Kandrashoff for contributing this image of the family fish stand on Watson Island named after his mom Stella.
Michael says: "My space that I rented from the city (110 dollars per month, half the rate given they messed up with the pilings thus making a boat slip that was too narrow for anyone else). The dock area was just as big as all of the others."
"My fish stand, you can see one of my customers buying fish. Mom was loved by many. Customers came to her even if they could buy fish from the other boats cheaper. All I had to do was advertise her name, they knew where she was. I was also the only one on the dock that ever had crabs and bay fish. We did great from that alone."
"I made this entire stand from junk I found up on the islands in the bay. I didn't have a car at that time, thus I used my 12 foot boat to haul everything from the islands."
"That's the Miami Herald building in the background, as well as the old MacCarthur causeway bridge. The Sundancer sailboat was my neighbor on the left, he is docked at Bayside now (saw it there 2 months ago)."
