Month #55 - Retrospective of Daily Photos posted from 5/04 to 12/09 (most viewers for the month)
November 2008 and it's fall in the Blue Ridge mountains - a wonderful time & place. After puzzling over what makes this image different to my eye from my usual, I decided it was the almost total lack of depth - the exact opposite of my normal goal. Instead of looking like a 3-d landscape it looks more like a tapestry hanging on a wall. Here's what I wrote in 11/08 when posting this image -
11/2/08 - Blue Ridge Mountain Autumn
Made near the top of a ridge in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia (you can just see sky peaking through the trees. I almost passed over this image when looking for keepers from this day outing. On second look, the textures interwoven with the colors reached out and grabbed me.
Shear rock faces with foliage growing in cracks and topped with hardwoods are a common sight here in the Shenandoah National Park.
