24th - Monthly Dues

Cheltenham, Glos.

Bit of a surprise this morning when I got to work - our February payslips were all ready and waiting for us, yay! :o)

But my unbridled joy was soon tempered when I looked at the 'Deductions' column; I worked out (and confirmed it when I got home) that after income tax, NI contributions, pension contribution and union dues, my total deductions this month surpassed my gross monthly salary on my very first payslip from when I started work in June 1989...!!! I've never thought about it like this before, but that sort of puts things into perspective - OK, wages and salaries have obviously gone up in twenty-one years, but to be paying back to various places more than my pre-tax monthly income for my first month's salary is a sobering thought...eeeek!!

Helpfully, our payslips have the address and phone number of our local tax office should we wish to avail ourselves of their services :o))

Good photo; I like the shallow DOF and the hard contrast fits well

Nice macro shot with this focus and depth of field. You certainly brought out the nice side of this document. :)

Pretty soon we'll be paying for the privilege of working!

One of our wealthy landowner Prime Ministers in the 70's quoted " Life wasn't meant to be easy "...funny how it rolled off his tongue !!

Horrible to make these comparisons. I'm trying (unsuccessfully mostly) to "live for the moment" ...... mostly because I can't bear to think about it all. Nice descriptive work and story!

I try not to think about money and how much they take back again, so depressing!

We should all think that way more. I think they count on chipping away bit by bit so that we feel the pain less.

Well that's a not something that's ever even considered thinking about crossing my mind! lol
