Remmel (age 81) was one of my Dad's best friends
and has known me since I was a kid.
When my Dad died in 91'
he and I (as some other of my Dad's friends)
became closer than when my Dad was alive,
and have kept close contact throughout the years.
I started noticing memory lapses with Remmel
about two years ago and it has gradually gotten worse.
This morning I finally talked to his wife about it
and sure enough he has been diagnosed with
the early stages of Alzheimers.
I took this picture today when he came over
for a visit and we really didn't have to talk that much.
I just put on some great live jazz, which we both love
and periodically we would look at each other,
nod and smile with approval of the beautiful music,
and he clapped after every song.
