Green-winged Teal

Southern Vancouver Island

These little ducks always seem to be in a hurry, moving with quick, staccato like actions. Watching them, it looks like they're trying to stay out of the way of the bigger ducks and are forever in a panic to get their food before another duck can get to it. Green-winged Teal facts: A very small, brightly patterned duck, the Green-winged Teal prefers shallow ponds with lots of emergent vegetation. Along the coast, it prefers tidal creeks, mudflats, and marshes to more open water. ~ All About Birds

I love ducks....and you caught him testing the waters for his lovely lady. Either that or he's trying to impress her.

Oh what a focus! I love this "stop action" foot in the air and drip from his beak. The reflection is simply awesome. V
