FLIES KOREAN AIRLIFT
COMBAT CARGO, KOREA -- Airman Second Class George Portoukalian, 81 Brock St., New Rochelle, N.Y., a radio operator of the 483rd Troop Carrier Wing's Kyushu Gypsy squadron, makes a radio call from his U.S. Air Force C-47 Skytrain while on another Korean airlift mission. The Kyushu Gypsies, based in a tent city in Korea, airlift supplies, mail and personnel to U.N. frontline and rear area units. Gypsy C-47s have airlifted nearly half of the 290,000 sick and wounded personnel carried on Combat Cargo aircraft during the Korean War. (U.S. Air Forces Photo) (AF 4597-3)
