In spite of the brutal cold there were plenty of birds out this morning. I found this American Robin fluffed up in a bush taking a break from eating buckthorn fruit. There were around 20 American Robins in the area and they were accompanied by a small flock of Cedar Waxwings. For a few minutes an enormous flock of Bohemian Waxwings joined in too. I didn't take very many photos because my hands were too cold to operate the camera well. I tried to use my video camera instead and it eventually started behaving erratically, not good!, so I put in a pocket under my jacket to keep it warm. My favorite scene of the morning was watching a good number of the Cedar Waxwings and American Robins all descend to a puddle of liquid water at once for a drink. It reminded me of the neat photos I see in magazines of lots of birds huddled around a backyard bird bath. I would have loved to have caught what I saw on camera, but I didn't dare try because getting to a position where I could get a clear photo would have certainly caused the birds to flee. I had to enjoy the sight from where I was, though the branches.
