We have an abundance of rosehips this winter, the areas along the edges of the marshes and roads
are lined with the brilliant red hips. This single hip was a little different colour and stood out
from the rest of the brilliant red berries. Rosehip facts: After blooming, wild roses form rosehips
small to large...red to nearly purple that birds find delicious. Rosehips are also notoriously
delicious in teas and jellies - but a warning when using native roses: there are often hairs
surrounding the seeds in the hips that irritate the human intestinal tract, so a process that
separates the seeds from the "meat" of the hips should be used before cooking. Important: Before
using rose hips as a food source, make sure the plant you’re harvesting from has not been treated
with pesticides or chemicals. ~ portlandnursery.com
