I watched this bird from across a lightly traveled 6 lane road as it tried to position and swallow a very large fish. I couldn't imagine that it would be successful, and so decided I'd cross the road and gets some shots of the effort. By the time I got there, he'd already gotten it down - or at least into its mouth. Somehow it got its mouth closed but this picture shows that the fish didn't get very far. It had big fins with spines and it hurts to even imagine the stomach ache in store for this ambitious Egret!
