100129_052317_4938 The Mother Of All Fridays (Fri 29 Jan 10)

Belmore, NSW, Australia

Ah, The Wall Of Dreams.

Some day, oh some joyous day, my syndicate's numbers will come up.

And shortly after that, instead of heading in to work (those of us who still do anyway) for another stress-laden Friday, we shall instead be anticipating the last ever Friday.

Indeed, the mother of all Fridays.

That will be the immediate precursor to the mother of all (permanent) weekends, with us heading off to Canadian wheat farms, African game parks, or the simple life in Portofino according to the individual syndicate member's taste. We shall forever leave behind Sam's Bar and Grill, Annie the barmaid, Rick and his Diner, Kylie the waitress (actually I might take her with me even though she's fictional, it's not like I've had any better luck recently), Louie the Snitch and the various ghosts of Halloween past. (Don't worry, only three viewers will understand this paragraph, so the odds are you won't be one of them.)

The prize will be ours.

Oh yes.

It will be ours.

(Did I mention the 5D Mk II that I want to buy...?)

Edit August 2023: The syndicate was called, with no small amount of tongue in cheek, The Future Millionaires' Committee. The people and places that we would be leaving behind were characters from a series of short stories that I would write (in a parody of the "film noir" style from the late 1940s) and distribute about our adventures in hunting down the win. Unfortunately I've lost most of them. Despite the affirmation at the end of the original description the win never did happen, which is no surprise to those who understand probability. I was the one heading for the Canadian wheat farm, although my desire to visit Canada has long since abated... though not entirely. The one who would be heading to the African game park would die young in just over 3 years, which nobody saw coming. The one headed for Portofino I've lost touch with, but if she's still with us she would be well into her 80s now. If I make it out to Genova one day I really should go the extra distance to Portofino in her honour. Also, these days I shoot Olympus / OM rather than Canon, and the 5D Mk II is a museum piece. But... it's what might have been.
