The grade school that both Amber and Ian attended have an emphasis on the arts, and music in
particular. They encourage all students to take a string instrument in first grade. At some
point along the way they are allowed to migrate to a band instrument if they choose. Amber
stuck with the violin, and I honestly hope Ian does too. Not that there is anything wrong with
band instruments, but I see how well Ian is coming along with his violin, and I'd hate to see
him move on to learn a whole new instrument when he still has so much to learn with this one.
Amber took piano lessons later on, but she also stuck with the violin thru high school.
I don't know how it'll all play out in the future, and I know parents tend to build things up
in our minds, but the thought of Ian someday playing beautiful music on the violin for a woman
that he cares deeply about keeps running thru my mind.
But, if one day he ends up being the drummer for a heavy metal rock band, I'm good with that
too. I'll still have this photo of my little violin hero to put up on the jumbo-tron. :)
