The Intes Micro MN-56 is a 5" (127mm) Maksutov-Newtonian reflector. It's made in Russia by a company that specializes in Maksutov variants of Newtonian and Cassegrain telescopes. Russian-built telescopes typically have "plain and functional" designs but superior optics. The Mak-Newt design, which incorporates a rear-mounted mirror and a front corrector plate, is optimized to produce very high quality views, more like an expensive refractor, than a reflector. For astrophotography the Mak-Newt produces small image spots (e.g. stars) and a flat photographic image plane.
