January 20-22, 2010

Nature takes its course in several ways that we cannot always understand.

The area in which we live has been party to a host of natural disasters over many years... to view only the last decade, we have seen wildfires, hurricanes, drought, floods, red-tide, crop-damaging cold waves, and now massive fish kills.
Many believe it is the cold water that is killing the fish; and that very well maybe. Much like the rest of the northern hemisphere, the temperatures in Florida turned unusually cold for more than a week. The sustained cold air temperature reduced the temperature of the water. Much of the marine life could not take it and died. They can now been seen floating on the surface of the canals and rivers in east central Florida.
At night when the air is still and the cloud cover forms a warming blanket over the earth, you can begin to smell the decaying remains of the dead fish.
This is a natural disaster that man cannot intercede. Nature does this for reasons we may not understand... but just like the wildfires, hurricanes and floods and droughts... we will get beyond this latest act of nature too.
