Often you need to cross the Grand Canal when you are not near a bridge.
To accommodate this need, there are gondoliers who pole trahettos back and forth across the canal all day long.
Traghettos are small basic un-fancy goldolas made to carry a dozen or so passengers across the canal
for a minimal charge of about a half-Euro. The trip takes only a couple of minutes.
This man and his dog are waiting for the next ride. I don't know about the dog, but I would expect he rode free !
