Earlier in the day this Boreal Owl was perched in shade high up a tree. Too dark for any worthwhile photos. Decided to return later in the afternoon. Met two young lady birders who had not yet seen the Boreal owl so told them to follow me. I couldn't believe what I saw. Perched in the open only 4 feet off the ground was the same Boreal Owl with a vole in its talons.
Birders and photographers were in awe. Finally, after 15 to 20 minutes on the same perch, the owl pooped and flew to a tree where it proceeded to tear into the vole. A wonderful experience which I'm sure will not be repeated anytime soon again with this species. This was about being in the right place at the right time.
