While we were in Barcelona, we decided to visit Sagrada Familia. It is a church that was designed by Gaudí. It is still under construction, but you can climb up in it. The plans for the church were destroyed during the Spanish Civil War (la guerra civil). It is not known if they will be able to finish the church or if it will be like Gaudí's plans.
This church was the reason why I wanted to visit Barcelona. When I was in eighth grade (long before I studied Spanish) I went to a slide show about Spain during lunch. One of the Spanish teachers (Sra. Wendt) gave the presentation and it included pictures from the top of Sagrada Familia. The teacher mentioned that the plans had been destroyed, and I was fascinated by the church. At that time, I had never considered studying Spanish and I was just beginning to learn French.
