31st - "New Year's Day"

Cheltenham, Glos

(1982 UK Top 10 hit for U2, from their third album War)

Bono, the Edge, Adam and Larry get to impress us again with a right rocker of a snowy number...I apologise but the tune and the photo do not in any way match! Call it Challenge Fatigue, winter blues, Christmas ennui...I just ran out of juice at the last moment! But the song is seasonally relevant, and the pic is...well, inspired by the corking shots Phillip Normanton has been wowing us with this month! How fitting it is therefore that I should both start and end this month's Challenge with a tribute to Sir Phil's mastery of light, colour and shape!

Circles, triangles and rectangles - the flavoursome remnants of the December Challenge crumble like so much dust (or a stock cube in my case...) as we bravely look forward to concocting new and toothsome photos in the new year ahead! It's been a brilliantly festive and geometrical month, I've enjoyed seeing all your wonderful shapes, colours and compositions, and I thank you all for visiting and commenting on my own humble offerings

I wish you all a very happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous New Year - all the best for 2010 wherever you are; may your shutter finger prosper and your eye discern the light in new and inventive ways! :o)

An excellent last entry. Suppose you´ve put in all the colours you have, before turning to monochrome. Enjoyed your images and comments a lot. Wish you a great new year!

Nice background - certainly 'beefed' up the shot.
You could be getting a call for food advertising on strength of this shot maybe?

Content may not be available here....however I'm sure it's rockin' somewhere. Great images and music this whole month....can't say you've saved the best for last (it would be too hard to choose), but it's certainly one of the most tasteful! ;-) BIG V

I agree that 'Sir Phil' is the master of light! I have never seen Jenga blocks and paper look so good! I have to say you have made to humble Oxo cube boxes look very special though.

I have enjoyed your galleries and music very much this month. Have a wonderful New Year's Eve - see you next year. Kathryn

A wonderful finish to a great month Doug!
Unfortunately, your music video is reading "Content not Available - We are sorry, the content is not available for your country". :^( Such a pitty - I'm sure it would have been great.
Happy New Year to you and your family!

Aww shucks (blush) - lovely use of the big purple nutty one on the backdrop - and is that a hint of Toffee Penny in the foreground?
Bit worried about your cooking though - sweets and gravy?? lol Or maybe it's a 'stock image' for Quality Street?! Groan
Have a fab New Year :o))
