After a week back in Texas, it was time to head for Phoenix and the NHRA Arizona Nationals. At this point, Del Cox Jr was set to drive at the first five NHRA events and decisions to move forward would be reevaluated after those events were completed.

While working on the crew, camera time is very limited as I usually find myself mounting tires, cleaning oil pans, gapping spark plugs and grinding piston rings. Again, living the dream! (Right?)

The only times I really get to use my camera is in our own pit, or in the staging lanes prior to our runs. The only other time, is if we do not qualify. Then, I can spend a few hours on Sunday shooting the eliminations.

Anyhow, Friday night in Phoenix, staging lanes were packed with Top Fuel cars. I saw Del sitting on a small wall and with the car in the background, snapped this keeper. This image was used in the pages of IHRA's DRM Magazine in a feature on Del a few months later.
