The church of St. Ignazio (1626-1640) in Rome is one of the two most important 17th c. Baroque churches in Rome.
It contains some of the most elaborate and important monumental illusionistic fresco decoration of the period in its ceiling fresco painted by Padre Andrea Pozzo,
a member of the church's Jesuit order. This illusionistic ceiling can be seen in the next image.
The church also contains elaborate marbles in the chapels in the transepts, and a "fake dome painting" created
illusionistically to simulate a real dome which was scrapped due to objections that it would block light from adjacent buildings.
This image shows an organist playing in the apse area of the church.
