After the breeding season adult male sea lions inhabiting the rookeries of Baja California and Southern California migrate northward to California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Many of these male sea lions end up around Vancouver Island feeding on the local salmon runs and the annual late winter herring spawn. In turn, they’re preyed upon by transient Orcas and great white sharks.
