This is a kaleidoscope generated from a 3D rendering of a Julia set fractal.
The source image for the kaleidoscope is a fractal image created with FractalWorks, a high performance fractal renderer for Macintosh, which is available on the Mac app store.
I then took the 3D image and turned it into a kaleidoscope using a Photoshop action I created. (For this image I created an over-sized original 3D render at 1800x1800 pixels, and then downsampled it to 900x900 pixels and sharpened the result to anti-alias
