12th - "Let There Be More Light"

Cheltenham, Glos

(from the 1968 album A Saucerful of Secrets)

OK, another technical shot today - no funny story to accompany this one. This is a straightforward blend of five separate exposures, one with blue light (flash reflected off a scrunched up blue plastic carrier bag...I kid you not!), one with orange (a scrunched up Sainsbury's placcy bag), one with green (green foil), a fourth was exposed for the flash head, and the last (which was actually the first I took) was without any special effects...although I did manage to catch the IR LEDs at the front...cool!

The files were opened into CS3 - I made the neutral exposure with the LEDs the base layer, the others were laid on top and various bits erased to leave only the colour remaining. Pic was flattened and then downsized and saved for Pbase! And all this before brekkie!

I must apologise for a bit of an unintentioned poetic license yesterday - I was re-reading what I wrote for the commentary to yesterday's shot and realised that the drop I was in (no) danger of falling down is probably no more than 50ft, maybe 60ft at the absolute tops! So apols if you thought I was in more danger than I was...I wasn't :o)

Terrific technical info, although I'm a bit daft and don't really get it. What I do get though, is your wonderful stories that accompany your shots. No need to apologize - just glad you didn't plunge off that cliff. ;-) ;-)

Amazing how a photo of a flash can be so dark. Love all those colors each occupying it's space. As for the tech thing, I beleive ya, I can't read a manual. If someone shows me, its ok, or ill learn on my own. :(

Love the colours here and I still think 50-60 feet into bushes no matter how soft wouldn't feel so great :)

I got lost in all the techy stuff, but i love the end result :)

Perfect illustration for "More light"!

Ingenious use of plastic bags and very nice work with layers to get this surreal lighting effect. No need for funny stories with the comments that you're getting. :)

Oh, so a plunge of 50ft wouldn't hurt at all? What we do without your ingenious photo tricks? This is a terrific and very creative entry today!

glad to see you are recycling those bags in such an ingenious way...wonderful evocative image...V

Like a little robot.

I saw the thumbnail of this and it almost looked like a little robot walking on another planet. Very neat effects on this...and a wonderful blend of colors.

Thanks for telling us how you did it. Not that I understand layers but I will give them a bash one day. Love the soft blue and green in the background.

You know if you get hit by a Mack truck you wont get an ounce of sympathy now, don't you.. LOL !!! You went to a lot of effort to achieve this great work, Doug

Super processing Doug! An off-camers flash needs to be my next purchase for the "money pit". :-)

thank you for all this information about this picture Doug,
it will take a while before I can handle the technique
Anyhow you created a very surrealistic capture! My compliments

It's O.K. men are prone to the odd exaggeration! (Having us all worried like that).
Good shot this morning - love the back story, what on earth time are you up.
