Shirley,
I don't know where you came up with 8 years being the life span for a mule deer, but you are wrong. Eight years is just them entering their prime and best antler production years. People who have never hunted very often do not have any concept of the relation between the hunter and the prey and the habitat. Hunting is a valid and necessary means of promoting the health and well being of wildlife through population control. I would far rather see an animal humanely killed and its flesh used to feed someone than to see it savagely mauled by and eaten while still living by someone's dog that the owner felt should be allowed to run free and uncontrolled. -- Bob K.

I'm very glad you did your shooting with an Olympus! My son's wife's family are hunters. It is their 'bonding' and 'getting in touch with nature' time, so I was told. This year my son killed his first deer. They really could use the meat this year, baby on the way, cut hours of work, etc... But, it still upsets me. I just don't see how killing a creature as beautiful as this one in your photo, could be 'fun' or even justified. I hope your buck sees his 8 years of life and leaves it naturally.

I like the 3D effect the strobe gives the antlers.

Thank you Brenda,
The eye is courtesy PaintShop Pro 9 Red-eye reduction since this is a shot taken at night with flash which caused moderate "white-eye". -- Bob K.

He's magnificent! And what a huge, intelligent eye.

Hi Brent,
You are correct that it was taken with both a yard light and the FL-50 flash. Unfortunately PBase does not read the EXIF properly and always says that no flash was used. It is my understanding that this also occurs with the EXIF from other cameras including the Canons. Yes the iso 800 is correct. Thanks -- Bob K.

quite a rack! I'm glad you did not shoot him. Looks like this was taken with flash or maybe a yard light (iso 800)? Nice detail.
