Central NY had an unexpected migrant visitor this Oct. The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is a southern midwestern grassland bird found only in a handful of states, and was a life bird for myself. It appears it moved on after a couple of days. Experts think it is a first year bird because the tail on a mature bird is really long. It was an acrobatic flyer catching insects in flight and on bushes.
The bird is really off course, so I hope it is finding it's way south while the weather holds.
