Modern humans have been in existence for around 170,000 years. We are all of African descent. There was no one here at all in what we now call Great Britain until 10,000 years ago when the ice receded. For 9,000 of the years since, this land has been invaded and settled by pretty much anyone who wanted to. The Romans, the Saxons, the Vikings and the Normans amongst them. Since 1066, 'we' have enjoyed secure borders, but migrants have continued to come. So the truth is, for most of human history, there was no one here at all. And in the tiny blip of time since the end of the last ice age, Britain has been a complete jumble of ethnicity and different cultures. It's all a bit more blurry than you think, so get used to it Nick. Even you are of African descent.
