The Bowthorpe Oak is the largest living ancient Oak in the UK and possibly Europe.
It has a girth of 12.30m. It is reputed to be over 1000 years old and therefore growing during the time of William the Conquerer.
The upper branches are chained to stop them splitting. It is also alleged that up to 39 people were able to stand within the hollow trunk.
The tree is situated on the Bowthorpe Park Farm Estate, 3m SW of Bourne on the A6121 at Manthorpe.
