42 Larry Smith's "Champion Machinery Co" air compressor

So what's different about exhibiting an air compressor? Well, if it is a 1/8 scale model, it is certainly a "model" and deserves to be exhibited. It is a 2 stage unit of the type used in service stations in the 1920's era. Randy Rockwell and Larry measured up a full sized unit at Brooks Antique Powerland a few years ago. From that, Larry scaled the compressor and between he and Randy they came up with what you see on display here. This is the only one built so far, but they have all the patterns and drawings, so castings "may" be offered in the future? Incidentally, this model "worked" all through the show. It provided air to run all the little steam engines you see in this picture along side of the compressor. Those 'little' steam engines are built from castings and sold by the GEARS committee each year as "money makers" to help fund the show costs. The one closest to the compressor is the 2009 rendition, and next to that is the 2008 model. The 2010 and 2011 engines are in the design stages already. Did you buy any of these castings? They are quite reasonable and make a great 'remembrance' of the show. They are a good starter project for anyone just getting into the hobby. Only $40. for aluminum or $75. for the bronze.
